2024 bucket list: fitness, friends, food

I have to admit…I’m one of those people. I love New Year’s resolutions, to do lists, fresh planners, unsullied notebooks, and bucket lists. The past few years have been pretty focused on PT school and residency. I want this year to be different. I want to do the things I’ve always wanted to. I want to explore, play, and simply feel more. This post will serve as a sort of living document, meaning I’ll be updating it throughout the year. Thanks for following along!

1. solo travel

I spend a lot of time alone, but I’ve always been afraid of traveling alone. However, recently I’ve taken more Ubers and Lyfts on my own, felt more organized in my packing, carried safety devices (such as pepper spray when I run), and I know solo travel will be a great way to disconnect. The blog posts I’ve read by other single women who have done this have really put me at ease as well.

2. Run the disney wine and dine half marathon

I’m running this with some of my best friends, and November cannot get here soon enough! Can you believe I already have the glitter I plan to wear on my face that day, my Disney-themed Bibboards (safety pin alternative), and Disney-themed press-on nails packed and ready to go??

3. write 50 blog posts

I don’t actually care that much about how many posts I write, but I miss writing consistently and I hope that this will prompt me to write at least once a week.

4. start a podcast (or restart my youtube channel)

Two of my best friends got me a high-quality Rode microphone and I’ve been itching to use it. I also recently purchased a GoPro Hero 11. I thought I might use it on my Brooklyn Half Marathon, but I haven’t quite figured out the perfect set up for it yet.

5. Sell at a weekend market

You can check out my store here :)

6. have a picnic by the river

The idea of this is so nice and peaceful, but it seems like the only times I’ve made it down to the river, I’ve always done so too close to sunset, and so it gets too chilly to really enjoy the time. I would love to be more intentional about spending time by the river with a picnic basket, a blanket, my current read, and an iced latte I pick up on the way.

7. Start treating patients again

This is the one I’m probably most qualified to do on this list, and yet is the one that I’m most anxious about. I want to get it right, and I don’t know what that looks like right now. Do I shoot my shot at the clinic I really want to work for, but who I don’t think is hiring and I’m afraid I’ll embarrass myself by trying? Do I take any job that will hire me even if it does not allow me to practice the way I want? Do I start my own thing? 2024 has to be the year I figure that out. No more putting it off.

8. pray tahajjud

The one good thing about having insomnia is that I am usually awake around Tahajjud time. I want to take advantage of this and get myself up to pray at least 2 rakat, if not more. My goal is at least 1x/week.

9. Attend an nfl football game

I’ve never been to one, but I got super invested in the NFL last season! I don’t know that I have a team yet, but I’m leaning heavily towards the Detroit Lions. My best friend is from Miami, so the dream is to make it to a Miami Dolphins game this season.

10. Have a proper movie night

I have a hard time sitting down and simply focusing on watching a movie (same goes for reading books, playing games, really anything that requires my full attention for long periods of time). I want to put my phone in another room, make myself popcorn, order a pizza, choose a movie I’ve been wanting to watch for a long time and simply sit down and…watch it. Wild, right?

11. make a pie from scratch

Snow White vibes.

12. Take my brother on more adventures

He’s going to say no, I already know it. I’m going to start with the one thing he will do — rock climbing. I’m hoping to drag him to other ventures throughout the year as well — maybe hiking, the bookstore…if you have any ideas for bonding with a 17-year-old, let me know!

13. stargaze through my sunroof

I’ve got to start taking better advantage of the things I already have!

14. volunteer somewhere regularly

Animal shelter? Pro bono clinic? The options are endless.

15. monetize my writing

The most confident I’ve ever felt in my writing was when I got to do it for pay. Don’t get me wrong, I love my blog and it’ll never go away. But there was just something so…official?…about writing guest pieces.

16. write SOMETHING EVERY DAY

This post counts ;)

17. THROW A TEA PARTY

The #aesthetic2024 we all deserve.

18. PASS THE CSCS

Apparently I love taking tests *facepalm.* But, I know that my strength and conditioning knowledge could use a refresher or two. While getting your CSCS does not mean you’ll automatically be a better clinician, I do think the study process will allow me to then directly implement what I learn into practice and will give me credibility as I continue to train as a well-rounded sports medicine therapist.

19. read 100 bookS

I read 25 books in 2022, 52 in 2023, so doubling my count while also trying to start my own practice should be…a breeze, right?

While you’re here, be sure to follow me on my journey and add me as a friend on Goodreads. (and DM me your book recs!!)

Reading progress so far

20. fast every monday and thursday for a month

Ramadan doesn’t count!

21. Run 20 miles

Did I mention I’m also signed up for a full marathon?? Disney again, with my same best friends! The marathon is in January 2025, so I want to be able to pretty confidently complete 20 miles before New Year’s.

22. learn 3 new surahs and 3 new duaas

I realized recently that, when I pray, I seem not only to default to the same surahs over and over, but also to the ones that I learned as a kid. In fact, I’m not sure that I’ve really learned any new surahs as an adult, which is not great. I started memorizing Surah al-Bayyinah in 2022 but fell off. My plan is to pick back up with this one and then to choose 2 others at least.

For duaas, I added the duaa to say when you wake up in the morning to my phone lock screen, and yet still could never seem to remember to say it. My plan is to add it to my calendar alerts daily so that I never forget. The two others I’d like to definitely learn are the duaa to say when you leave the home, and the one to say when you enter.

23. Lose 30-50 pounds

This is pretty off from my normal content. I won’t actually mind if I don’t lose any weight by the end of the year, as long as I’m still maintaining a healthy lifestyle with movement and self-care at the core of it all. I’m about 12 pounds down from the start of the year at the moment, and I would really like to continue the habits that end up often contributing to weight loss.

24. Complete the dare to detach course and then actually…detach from toxic relationships
